Dia 21: 5 coisas que estão na sua cabeça | 5 things on your mind.

1- Brasil - o que eu vou fazer e comer | Brazil - what I will do and eat
Less than a month till I go to Brazil and I'm very excited about all the things I will eat and do. I am anxious to meet my family and friends and see the places that I love so much. Lately, it's been hard to stop thinking about Brazil...

2- Fazer as malas | Packing
I have lots of things to take to Brazil, so I'm thinking on how I'm gonna do this, what I will put in each suitcase, what goes in the carry on and how I will go under the limit (that is 50lb here in Japan! - by the way, between Brazil and USA, it is 70lb!)

3- É segredo ainda | It's a secret
Well, number three is still a secret (that will be revealed in our next newsletter!), so I can't tell yet, but I tell ya, my head is exploding with so many thoughts, like always!)

4- Uruguai | Uruguay
Well, I tried to convince my parents to take us to Foz do Iguaçu and Rio de Janeiro, but now that the 'travel bug' has bitten my mom, she only wants to go to places that she's never been before... Because of this, the destination chosen is Uruguay, country that I've been before and fell in love! Now I am thinking about all the places that we'll be able to go and, well, i'm not a fatty or anything, but I am thinking about the 'dulce de leche', the uruguayan ham (that is wonderful!)... hehe

5- A outra parte do segredo | The other part of the secret
Awee, if I had been a little late, I could post here what really is on my mind.... but maybe later I can come update this, right?

Dia 20: Descreva 3 memórias significantes da sua infância | Describe 3 significant memories from your childhood.

Dia 20: Descreva 3 memórias significantes da sua infância
Describe 3 significant memories from your childhood.

- OS VERÕES NA PRAIA | THE SUMMERS AT THE BEACH
Oh... the fireplace on the picture... I think we never actually used it, but it was always the place where we'd put the hammocks. What a waste, huh? But it was summer and all I wanted was that refreshing ice cream after lunch, play with the hose, a popsicle there, run into the ocean and more ice cream.
Yeah, that thing of going to a new place each summer didn't exist, since my family always went to Porto Fino, but there was nothing better than to spend 2 weeks at the beach, eating snacks, playing cards and swinging in the hammock! I remember (not) eating crab, playing ping pong, riding my bike, potato "coxinha" (Brazilian delicious snack) that my mom would always bring frozen to the beach, washing the car, always looking for the surf boards... oh... wonderful life!

- EU MENTIA PRO MEU PAI | I USED TO LIE TO MY DAD
Olha a confusão!
Here's the thing, my dad "is" coxa (little background: in my city, Coxa and Atletico are arch rivals and there's a lot of competition between the two of them), but all of my cousins were atletico (in this picture, the cousins that after became atleticanos under the influence of my brother and me). I've always been atleticana, but to please my daddy, I pretended to be coxa! Look at the confusion! And of course one day he found out the truth, when I went by coxa station calling it names and my uncle told him... Moral of the story: lying is not worth! I felt much better when I didn't have to hide the truth and when I was finally able to free myself and be a true atleticana! haha

- COMER AMENDOIM COM O DITIAN (AVÔ) | EATING PEANUTS WITH MY GRANDPA
Ah, como ele adorava aquilo :)     OK, OK, I am doing this according to the pictures I find on my computer! hahah This picture is from my grandparents' 50th anniversary on my dad's side! My housekeeper outfit doesn't bring me many memories (except that I wanted to use the clothes even to go to the park...) but this is probably one of the only picture I have with my whole family and my grandparents! I was very little when my grandpa passed away, so I don't have that many memories with him, but my favorite was to sit down around the table and eat peanuts. Oh, how he loved that :)

| If you could live anywhere, where would it be and why?

If you could live anywhere, where would it be and why?

What an easy question :)
A place with blue ocean, flowers and the sun. A place that is clean and beautiful. A place with an awesome culture. A place that is clean and that there's no rain! A place that inspires me and that makes me want to live an active, healthy and creative life.
Of course the answer to this question is also Hawaii!

I would only include my family (and Jesse's family), our friends, Brazilian food and that's all, I don't need anything else :)

Dia 18: Um poema | A poem.

O sol nasce quadrado
Azul como a laranja
Banana tem caroço
então vendi minha bicicleta.

(It might lose some of the meaning with the translation, but I hope you enjoy this poem that was so important during my childhood)

The sun rises squared
Blue like an orange
Bananas have a pit
So I sold my bicycle

HAHAHAH brincadeirinha, vou postar dois poemas então.
hahahaha just kidding, I will post two poems then.
Leve-me com você! Vamos depressa!
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth!
For your love is better than wine;
your anointing oils are fragrant;
your name is oil poured out;
therefore virgins love you.
Draw me after you; let us run.
The king has brought me into his chambers.
(Song of Songs 1:2-4)
It's in the Bible peopleeeeeeee!!!!

| What is the thing you most wish you were great at?

What is the thing you most wish you were great at?

If there's one thing I wish I was great at it is: to be able to create things the way I imagine it.

I have so MAAAAAANYYYYY ideas, my head never stops thinking! But when it's time to execute the project, it never is the way I imagined!

Also, this 'desire' is very wide, because I'd know how to draw things the way I imagine, photograph things the way I see, design things that I like, make everything cute and cool. Also, things wouldn't only stay on the paper for lack of knowing how to execute them :)

Dia 16: Quais são as suas 5 maiores realizações? | What are your 5 greatest accomplishments?

Dia 16: Quais são as suas 5 maiores realizações?
What are your 5 greatest accomplishments?

- O HAWAII

I think Hawaii was my biggest accomplishment because it was something that I dreamed since I was little and lots of people didn't believe that this dream could come true. At that time, only the brazilians full of money could travel to the States, rarely going as far and as expensive as Hawaii. And they don't even speak Portuguese there! So I had to learn a new language, save money, enroll in a university, everything to go after this dream. I admit that the hardest part was to convince my dad, but even that worked out! hahaha but I dedicate this accomplishment to my Father in heaven, the one who put this dream in my heart and gave me the way to fulfill it.

Nós visitamos bares e entrevistamos e fotografamos prostitutas, ex-prostitutas, organizações, cafetinas e pessoas comuns para a criação do livro Exposed: Revealing Worth.
Writing a book might be in lots of people's list and I did that, when I was 19 years old. In fact, it was a book written in a group and the experience was amazing. We visited bars and interviewed and photographed prostitutes, former prostitutes, organizations, pimps and normal people to create the book Exposed: Revealing Worth. Another realization dedicated to my Father in Heaven.

- TURISMO

In Brazil, we have to take a very hard test to get into university and I got the first place in the best university of my state, for the course I wanted: Tourism :) (In the picture: me and my cousin Drika in the tradicional 'mud bath' for the people who get into the university)

- CASAR NA PRAIA | GET MARRIED AT THE BEACH

Hum, I don't even know if that counts as an accomplishment, but it is something that I've dreamed since I was little and it happened: I married the love of my life, on a beautiful beach, in the Caribbean. I wasn't super stubborn to get married at the beach (come on, I just wanted to get married!), but it simply happened. I think God really has things in store for us, that we want, but that we cannot imagine that one day it will happen.

- SURF
Since everything in my life has to do with the beach, Hawaii and Jack Johnson (ahhaha), of course learning how to surf was an accomplishment. Maybe not one of the greatest, but for sure, one of the most pleasant and fun! After many classes of me needing a push, in the last Última Tribo camp that I participated, I was able to surf without anyone pushing me!!

| Where is the most beautiful place you've ever been?

Half-way done! YAY! And today I have a sweet question to answer :)

Where is the most beautiful place you've ever been?
Easy peasy!! The hard part will be to stop talking about it...
Of course the answer for this question is my beloved HAWAII.

It all started when my mom told me that one of her clients had gone to Hawaii and that when she arrived at the airport, they put a garland of flowers (lei) around her neck. Since them, Hawaii became my biggest dream...

I've always said that if I got a car for my 18th birthday, I'd sell it and go to Hawaii. The car didn't come, but on the other hand, I got a big gift from my parents: a DTS in Hawaii, meaning, 3 months in the paradise :) Oh, and even after fulfilling my dream of visiting Hawaii, I still dream... this time I dream on coming back... and staying...!
E é claro que o Hawaii me surpreendeu!
And of course Hawaii amazed me! When I got there, I found new sceneries and beauties that I didn't even imagine that could exist. Each little trip around was a new discovery.
EVERY place was wonderful, there's not a single place that I thought it was ugly. Everything was God's perfection!
I had a chance to visit famous beaches, like Pipeline and Waimea... and fall in love!
Well, Hawaii was for sure the most beautiful place I've ever been and I doubt any other place can take it's position :)

ALOHA!

Dia 14: 5 pontos fortes | 5 strengths you have.

After a post like the previous one, I needed something to make me feel better about myself... hahaha

Since I was a child, I've always been very obedient to my parents. Sometimes I'd complain, of course, but in general I was pretty obedient. Nowadays, even though I am married and I can make my own decisions, I still obey my parents.

Honra a teu pai e a tua mãe, para que se prolonguem os teus dias na terra que o Senhor teu Deus te dá. {Êxodo 20:12}
Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. {Exodus 20:12}

Ele disse pra gente 'ir ao mundo e pregar o evangelho' e aqui estou eu, no Japão, trazendo as boas novas!
But there's another guy I always try to obey: Jesus! I think obeying him is much harder than obeying my parents, because his requests usually include leaving the flesh behind and loving others. Loving until it hurts! He told us to 'go into the world and preach the gospel' and here I am, in Japan, bringing the good news! But I admit that sometimes I want to be like Jonah and go the opposite way... but at the same time, I know that what God has for me is the best option, so it would be like fleeing from paradise to go to the garbage dump... and I'm not stupid, right?  :P

I am very organized and I like to plan everything, everything! Sometimes I am here, but my thoughts are far away, in the future! I think this is part of my characteristic of being a dreamer, that invades every area of my life. I think my organization has to do with my planning and not necessarily on leaving things in order.

3- SINCERIDADE | SINCERITY:
I am very sincere, and I admit that I don't know how to lie! So, if you ask me: "Did you like it?" and I didn't, I will turn my face away, try to change subjects or say no in a very low voice... On the other hand, if I tell you something good, you can be sure that I spoke from the bottom of my heart :)

4- BOA MEMÓRIA | GOOD MEMORY:
Well, I couldn't think about anything else, but this is something I found out after getting married :) My memory is very good! I remember lots of things and one of them is that if I go somewhere for a couple of times, I can go back there, with the help of my super photographic memory. I had no idea it was special, but since Jesse told me it is, I believe him! hahaha

5- JESUS:
Ele é a minha força, a minha alegria, meu protetor, meu mestre, meu professor, meu salvador, meu melhor amigo, meu tudo!
I think having Jesus is a big strength! hahaha That means that even when I am stubborn, the Holy Spirit can convince me to chance. I am far away from being perfect, but I have hope that I can chance. He is my strength, my joy, my protectos, my master, my teacher, my savior, my best friend, my everything!

Dia 13: 5 fraquezas | 5 weaknesses you have.

Here's a questions that is hard to answer.
We all have our weaknesses, but sharing it around is hard. Anyways, I think my weakness are all very similar, but let's see...

1- ORGULHO | PRIDE:
Unfortunately, I am very proud. I need to ask God for forgiveness all the time... I think I became proud by trying to protect myself. But now I have someone to protect me (Jesus), so I don't need to 'hide' behind the pride.

2- ACHAR QUE EU ESTOU SEMPRE CERTA | THINKING THAT I AM ALWAYS RIGHT:
After all, I am a woman, right? hahaha Actually, I think it is because in the past, at school, I was right about lots of things, then I grew up and kept thinking that I was always right, IDK. Poor Jesse, because now he is my main 'victim'... Sometimes when he makes a mistake I think I have the right to be mad because he didn't do it my way. It's bad, seriously. I need to get better at this, humiliate myself and learn with other people too.

3- JULGAMENTO | JUDGEMENT:
And well, because I think I am always right, I also think I have the right to judge other people in their attitudes... I usually don't express these thoughts aloud, because I know it's a sin, but I admit that inside, sometimes it's hard to stop myself.

Oh, I only think about myself, my own needs, my own satisfaction... everything the way "I" want, the way "I" like. It's ugly, but I take to long to notice when I am being selfish.

Ok, it's not that I am thaaaaat lazy, but it is something I would like to improve, especially in the morning and when I am cold.

--
Even with all of these weaknesses/sins, I don't need condemned myself by that, because Jesus already took it all at the cross. The important thing is to know that there is forgiveness and that there is someone who help me change those things, slowly... :P

Dia 12: Descreva um dia típico na sua vida | Describe a typical day in your life.

Typical day? That doesn't belong to me!
And anyways, our typical weeks are about to change anyway, so I don't even know how to answer this question.

Descreva um dia típico na sua vida |  Describe a typical day in your life.

SEGUNDA-FEIRA | MONDAY:
Dia livre.
Day off. I sleep in, sometimes I don't do anything all day long, sometimes I go to the park, to the mall or I go out with Jesse.

TERÇA-FEIRA | TUESDAY:
Lazy morning with Jesus. I make lunch / Jesse makes lunch. In the afternoon we have an English class for kids, so we prepare for that. At night we have dinner and bible study at May's house.

QUARTA-FEIRA | WEDNESDAY:
On Wednesdays we also have a lazy morning. In the afternoon we go grocery shopping and I prepare the meals for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. At night we have two English classes, with Tomotake and then Yoko.

QUINTA-FEIRA | THURSDAY:
O lugar é meio vazio, então eu passo a maior parte do dia estudando, lendo a Bíblia, respondendo emails, essas coisas.
We wake up early and go to Sakaimachi (1 hour away from our house), where we work at the mall with English lessons. The place is kinda empty, so I spend most of the time studying, reading the Bible, replying emails, these things.. On Thurdays, we have a class with Reira and Ikkei. At night, we go straight to the Bible Study at Ishikawa's house and go home late.

SEXTA-FEIRA | FRIDAY:
On Fridays we also go to Sakai and we have only one class, with Kimura-san. At night we go home and we are usually too tired to do anything else.

We go even earlier to Sakai, with May, so we help her on the classes and try to get more students. We come home and I don't even know what we do, but many weeks Jesse has to prepare the word for Sunday service.

DOMINGO | SUNDAY:
Church day. In the morning we pick between 3 churches: New Creation, Gospel Chapel and Lord's Heir. Sometimes we teach English at the church and if we are in Tokyo, sometimes we go out with friends. After that, in the afternoon, we go to another service at Tsukuba Gospel Fellowship. At night we either go home or go have dinner with someone.

Nada típico, né?
Not typical, right?

| What you would tell your 16 year old self if you could.

| What you would tell your 16 year old self if you could.

Segundo os meus cálculos, eu tinha 17 anos nessa foto
According to my memory, I was 17 in this pic.
Querida Erika,
Dear Erika,
Even though it has only been 6 years since I was 16, I believe that I learned and matured a lot with this time.

1- Don't lose time with things that aren't important. It's not worth stressing out and suffering for people that don't deserve and situations that won't make a difference in the future.

2- Don't worry about your marriage. You won't get married when you are 18 years old, neither too old. Let things happen according to God's plan, because he has the best for you ALWAYS. You really have no idea of the things he has planned for your future.

3- Continue sonhando! Sonhe grande!
3- Keep on dreaming! Dream big! Dreaming is worth and there's nothing better then turning your dreams into plans, then into memories. Don't listen to those who say it is impossible. With God nothing is impossible.

4- Invest in relationships. Spend time with your friends and try to grow these friendships. Trust your parents, they really know what is best for you.

5- Don't study Tourism! You are smart enough to pass the test to study Journalism on UFPR. hahaha

6- Seek more of God and talk to him all the time. He's in the control and he has a plan.

7- In a few years you will like healthy food, you will still love to sleep and you will find yourself in situations that you've never imagined before. Life is an adventure :)

Dia 10: 5 músicas na sua playlist hoje | 5 songs on your playlist today.

Of course I had to choose a picture of my favorite singer of all times! Uma questão do coração | A matter of heart

Lately, we've been having lots of problems with the equipment used for our English classes and also in the church. We could find a way around for everything, until the projector broke down. Because of that, in our last newsletter, we decided to do a fundraising and see if anyone was willing to help us. When I received the first donation, I realized that is wasn't about the money, but a willing heart!

The first person to help us was a university student (and everybody knows that college students are kinda broken, at least in Brazil) and her attitude touched me a lot! From that time on, I realized that everybody that i know HAS a little bit of money to give, but it's not everyone who WANTS to give.
I realized that many times I didn't help, simply because I didn't want to give / I thought it wouldn't make a difference / I thought I'd lack something / I was selfish! And I was ashamed of being so stingy with my money. Now I want to pay attention to myself and also be willing to help other people in their needs. After all,

Lucas 6:38
Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:38

I confess that I was starting to become sad after some days had passed and no one else helped us, but the Lord never forsakes us and in less than a week, we received the full amount to buy a new projector.

"Essa foi a primeira vez que eu fiz um levantamento de fundos sem dar nada em troca. Que experiência incrível! É menos com relação ao dinheiro e tudo com relação ao coração! Obrigada Deus por responder ás nossas orações e por prover um novo projetor. Eu estou completamente maravilhada." {Meu diário, 2 de novembro de 2013}
"It's the first time we did a fundraiser without giving anything in return. What a new experience! It's less about the money and all about the heart! Thank you God for answering our prayers and providing a new projector! I am absolutely amazed" {My journal, November 2nd, 2013}

I would like to challenge us, what about being less selfish? How about investing more in the Kingdom of God?

"Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth." 1 Timothy 6:6

The story I will tell today is actually a fairytale :)

Once upon a time, many and many years ago, there were two little girls who loved to play and create crazy things. They were cousins and they attended the same church. Carol liked to wear green shirts and Erika liked strawberry clothes. They ran all over the area of the church, throwing paper airplanes, had fun playing "orange tag", but their favorite game was to invent stories.

One day, they decided that the teenagers of the church would be part of a big family, and of course, they were the daughters. But since this is a fairytale, let's tell you about the fairy godmother. The fairy godmother was Rafael (check out the F of Fairy in his T-shirt hahaha) and he did a good job making the lil girls very happy.

One day, the lil girls asked the fairy godmother to tell them a story. He started telling the story of the three little pigs. The little Seiti piggy built a house made out of straw, that was destroyed by the powerful blow of the bad wolf. The little Carol piggy then decided to build a house made of wood, but it was also destroyed by the bad wolf. Erika, who knew the story already, realizing that she was the last character remaining, got really happy when she guessed that her house would be made out of bricks, but our fairy godmother surprised us one more time. The little Erika piggy built a house made out of feathers, that was also destroyed by the bad wolf.

The Erika in this story is me and that's how I learned that sometimes life deceives us... hahaha

| What is your dream job and why?

Eu adoro sonhar!
Here's a question that is hard and easy at the same time.
One of the things I know very well about me is that I know how to make a thousand plans, mixing it all together, thinking about all the possible and imaginary alternatives and sometimes, some impossible, I admit. And 'dreaming' is my thing! I love to dream!

O meu trabalho dos sonhos incluiria:
Escrever textos, fotografar, praia, viajar pelo mundo, o Jesse, Jesus, família, amigos, pessoas que precisam do amor de Jesus, aventuras, comida gostosa, segurança, perrengue, culturas, novas experiências, risadas.
My dream job would include:
Writing, photography, beaches, traveling around the world, Jesse, Jesus, family, friends, people who need the love of Jesus, adventures, yummy food, security, cultures, new experiences, laugh.

So I think it would be something like: Missionary Journalist
Someone that goes into the world to preach the gospel and that not only lives it in her own world, but also shares with other people. I think I am an intern in this job :))
