Onigiri - o bolinho de arroz | the rice ball

One of the things I wanted to eat the most in Japan were the onigiris, which were simply a rice ball with something inside (I used to eat the tuna with mayo one) with a nori - seaweed - around.

You can find the onigiris anywhere! At the convenience stores, at the markets, way too easy! Besides that, it was a flavorful, cheap and nutritious snack. It costs about 100 to 150 yens. (USD1 to USD1,5).

Yumm
You only need to open the package and enjoy it! Yumm

This was the last onigiri Jesse ate in Japan... salmon!

Kit Kats do Japão | Japan's Kit Kats

Whoever follows me on Instagram might have seem the pictures of the Strawberry and Pumpkin Kit Kats I ate in Japan. Besides these two, I also tried the normal, the dark version and the matcha green tea.

I admit that I was a little frustrated with what I found, because I imagined that it would be really easy to find the craziest flavors there. In fact, I only found these flavors when I was literally leaving Japan... at the airport!

Unfortunately, when I found those Kit Kats, I didn't have any more yens to spend :( That's why I took the pictures... hahaha maybe someday I'll try them too.

The flavors on this picture, from left to right, top to bottom are: Wasabi, Rum and Raisins, Chili, Strawberry, Strawberry Cheesecake, Sakura Green Tea and Green Tea.

We were able to try both of the Green Tea ones, since those were the only ones with a small pack and cheap... the pink one was yummier.
Did you know Japan had such a variety on Kit Kats? Which one would you like to try? My favorite one was the pumpkin!

A graça de Deus e a ira da Erika | God's grace and Erika's anger

Oi, tudo bem?
Hello guys, how are you?
I still have tons of things to post about Japan, can you believe? Today I was looking on my computer and I found a post ready to be posted, but when I wrote it, I was so mad I felt like I shouldn't post. Therefore, when I read it today, I felt that it would be interesting for people to know what's been happening in Japan!
--

Do you know what makes me really mad here in Japan? It's the action of the Jehovah's witnesses!

In a completely dark place, the Jehovah's witnesses bring even more darkness, but a darkness that pretends to be light.

Today at the English School, a guy came and after finding out that I was Brazilian, told us that he would bring a Brazilian friend. To our surprise, he returned a few hours later, with the Brazilian guy (that only was born in Brazil, he didn't even speak Portuguese well).

I was mad because he arrived and was acting like it was His room, he sat down and was looking into our stuff (he even grabbed a paper of mine and started reading - and I hate it!). Anyways, it's so hard to love people that insist on the wrong things. In fact, during all the time they were there, I just wanted him and his laugh (that seemed mocking us) to leave us alone. Good thing that I have a husband that doesn't let this stop him and was telling them how Jesus loves them and how Jesus is God. He even tried to reply, but in the end, Jesse told me that they accomplished nothing on this visit.

What really drives me crazy in this whole thing is that their doctrine is very similar to the real Christianity. In fact, most people don't even know that the differences are absurd (like, they believe that Jesus is not God, or that Jesus is Satan's brother; and the reason why they knock from door to door: they believe that the more things they do (works), bigger is the chance of being noticed by Jehovah and then they become a select group, blablabla...)

Besides not giving the honor, the glory and the position worthy of Jesus, they leave the grace of God out of this whole thing! How can someone say that they are Christians but ignore the fact that we are saved ONLY by the wonderful grace of God?

Anyways, I was mad today, not only because of the visit, but to remember that they are everywhere here in Japan, taking Jesus' precious sheep away from him and seriously, hurting the 'image' of Jesus here in Japan. But then I remembered that the wonderful grace of God is also available for them, they can also receive this wonderful gift and be saved, by Jesus' sacrifice and by the Father's grace.

Pray for the Jehovah's witnesses and for all who think they are in the light, but are in the darkness. Pray that they will find the real light of Jesus.

Today I want to recommend a place for everyone who is planning to visit Uruguay's capital, Montevideo. My favorite place to eat during the whole trip wasn't the famous parrilla houses, neither the chivitos restaurants, but a café beyond delicious: Amaretto Bakery Café.

The restaurants in Uruguay are kinda expensive and this was one of the cheapest restaurant from the whole trip, with good quality and flavorful food. The menu had lots of options, including burgers, salads, soups and risottos served on a bread bowl, sandwichs and pastas. Everything very fresh and healthy.

| Clockwise: pasta with shrimp, risotto, spinach soup, hamburguer with a delicious baked potato. These were only some of the delicious foods we had at Amaretto.

Each dish costs about 10 dollars and it was very well served. Besides the meals, the café also had a big option for deserts (unfortunately, I was so full I didn't have room to try the deserts. Maybe the next time ;)

Amaretto Bakery Café can be found in many different addresses in the Uruguayan capital.

Redeeming Love (Amor de Redenção) by Francine Rivers

Today I came here to recommend another book! The story is wonderful, but the book also exposes the 'backstage' of a subject that I am very interested in: prostitution. The name of the book is Redeeming Love, written by Francine Rivers.

The problem is that I can't tell the story, otherwise I might spoil it for whoever decides to read it. hahah

Basically, it is a 'rereading' of the book of Hosea, from the Bible. For those who do not know, it tells the story of a prophet who had to get married to a prostitute because God told him to do so. She wasn't faithful to him and ran away many times, but the prophet had to go through all of this to illustrate God's relationship with the Israeli people (that used to turn to other gods).

In this story, God tells Michael to marry the prostitute Angel. They get married, but Michael needs to have lots of love and patience to breakthrough hardships, walls and thoughts she has about herself. As I spoke before, the prostitution theme makes me very interested and all this matter of prostitution/pimp/slavery are exposed on the book. It's incredible to see the dependance that the prostitutes have over the pimps, even though they usually hate them. It's incredible to see the spiritual warfare that goes inside those women's minds that are usually the victims, but they think their value is exclusively on their bodies.

It's a love story, about God's love that forgives us, accepts us and remains faithful no matter how many times we have failed in the past, present or future.

As I said here, read something that will edify your life! Even if it's fiction. Francine River's books are great stories!

Vote de acordo com a Palavra | Vote according to the Word

I don't even like politics, I don't understand anything about it, but I know one thing: God has put this matter on my heart and has called me to pray. Many times, as I read my Bible, I find verses that make me stop and think and pray for only one subject: the Brazilian politics.

(Êxodo 18:21 - A Mensagem)
In this story, the situation was that Moses was judging all the matters of the people, he took care of all the israelites, from morning till night. One day, his father in law Jetro, asked him why he was doing that and he suggested that Moses divide the population in groups of a thousand, hundreds, fifty and ten people and put leaders to solve their matters. And the conditions to choose these matters were the following: "Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe" (Exodus 18:21 - The Message)

This year, we'll have the presidential elections in Brazil. Let's choose men and women to lead Brazil according to what the Word of God says. There are only 4 things to be observed, that can change the story of our nation! Of course, only God knows who is able, who fear Him, who is trustworthy and hates a bribe (incorruptible - in my Bible in Portuguese). And since only God knows, why don't we ask him in whom should we vote?

Polícia que pede desculpas | Police that says 'I'm sorry'

Hey guys, everything good?
Today I came to tell you a story, because it is something I never thought that could happen in any place in the world, but in Japan, it happens.

On a beautiful Sunday, me and Jesse left Tsukuba towards the south to Kawasaki. On the way, we stopped in Tokyo, to go to the church. Arriving in Tokyo, we noticed that Jesse had forgotten his driver's license at home. Still, we kept traveling south, because we would spend the weekend with my uncle Mahomed and aunt Miyuki.

The weekend was beautiful, full of joy and yummy food. On the way back, Jesse was driving and I was the co-pilot, trying to understand the GPS. So, there was a time when I realized that we had to change lanes, because the one that we were on only turned and we had to go straight. So Jesse changed the lane and right after that, the policeman who was in FRONT of the scene told us to stop the car.

We stopped and the policemen asked us many questions and with our level of Japanese, we couldn't pretend that we didn't understand neither understand everything they were saying. But all the sudden, they asked us to get out of the car, and they frisked us, very gently.

In the end, the police let us go, but asked that when we get home, we should send a fax to her with a copy of the driver's license and passport. Ah, of course, and said sorry that she had stopped us. We arrived at home and waited for their call. She told us that we didn't need to send the documents and only asked us to take care and again, said sorry.

Ah, que saudades da gentileza japonesa!

Well, just an information to the Brazilians: Brazilians cannot drive in Japan, not even with an international license! Other foreigners can drive for up to a year, and after that, they need to get the Japanese license, that is very hard to get. It is very common to take the test 5, 10 times until they pass.

Sex + Money: o filme | the movie

Estou enojada, mas de um jeito bom.
Estou tremendo, mas de um jeito bom.
I feel sick, but in a good way.
I'm shaky, but in a good way.

Today I had the opportunity to watch the documentary "Sex + Money: A National search for Human Worth" that is about slavery / prostitution / human trafficking in the United States. I already posted the trailer here in the blog but today I had the chance to see the whole movie! The guys that made this video are part of PhotogenX, the ministry I worked in 2010.

If you speak English, there's no excuses, stop reading the blog and click on the link right now and watch the movie, cause it won't be up - and for free- for too long.

There's so much on my mind right now that I have no reaction. Speechless. With a huge desire to do something, but lost, not knowing what to do. My desire is to build a house to host these victims. Or maybe even become a police and arrest all the pimps and buyers.

I will write about some things that got me during the movie, in case you haven't had time to watch it, ok?

- The movie is in the United States, where prostitution is a crime, but in Brazil, prostitution is a recognized professional activity as long as it is not children doing it. In the movie, they tell that in Germany, before prostitution was legalized, there were about 6000 child prostitutes, but two years later, this number grew to 15000.

- They highlight that human traffic is the second largest criminal industry in the world that while guns and drugs can be sold only once, people can be sold thousands of times.

- About child prostitution, they say that one of the causes is the broken homes, that makes kids run away from home and go to the streets, where they find someone that promises to take care of them in exchange of a 'little favor'.

- It talks about the prostitution not as an occupation, but as exploitation. It talks about slavery that many prostitutes are in, with no way out. Also, it exposes the rapes that happen so many times during prostitution. Yes, it's something so obvious, but sometimes we are so worried condemning the prostitute that we forget that they are the victims of this system pimp + prostitute + buyer.

- They show images of buyers being arrested! Man, if you buy a prostitute, you are financing the crime! These women only go through what they go through because there's someone buying them!! Wake up! Real men don't buy sex!

- The man also talks about pornography and how nowadays, the access to pornography is too easy with the advance of the internet. Parents, please, be aware of that your kids are looking online. What they see today can harm their lives in the future, because most of the people addicted to pornography don't think they need help, instead, they'll only look for help when something important is destroyed. If you are already addicted to pornography, look for help. There's an organization called XXXChurch, which is a non profit Christian organization that aims to help people who struggle with pornography.

- The movie tells how the children are easy targets for the pimps. They look for the most vulnerable ones and the places to find them are very easy: schools, shopping mall. Parents, children are innocent and they simply believe on the guy that says she's beautiful, pay attention!

If you want to know more, watch the movie. We need to get informed first before doing anything!

Coisas que eu vou sentir saudades no Japão | Things I will miss in Japan

Seriously, I started this post in Japan, but it was a draft until today... so I decided to finish it... hehehe

Of course, I couldn't leave my beloved Hyaku En store out of this list. To tell you the truth, I haven't missed it yet, but I also didn't need to buy anything to the house, not even for anything... Besides that, my godmother told me that in São Paulo there's a Daiso that costs R$5,90. Read more about the Hyaku En Store here.

- Drink Bar
Oh... how I miss Drink Bar. I also wrote a post about the Drink Bars here. It was too good to be true. Great place to go, to talk, have a good drink and let the time go by.

- Pessoas sendo gentis e legais o tempo todo | People being nice and gentle the whole time
Woooooooooooooooow, this is the part I miss the most! The people in Japan are extremely police, nice and gentle the whole time! No one makes noises (like, listening to bad music super loud hahaha), everybody treats you well, everybody is willing to help. In the stores, the workers are extremely helpful and cute! Ah, how I miss the good Japanese education! Oh, and the police man say sorry if they have to stop you! I will tell this story soon!

Japan is also one of the safest countries in the world and that's wonderful! It's such a freedom to walk around without worry, with an open purse, leave the windows at the house wide open (in the first floor).... that's one of the things I miss the most, honesty is such a wonderful thing.

I miss the prices at Hyaku en, clothing stores, things that aren't food... hehehe everything is much cheaper than Brazil! And I could actually find some really nice clothes there, if I only search well... But actually, that's not a 'Japanese advantage', but a Brazilian weakness... unfortunately...

Well, today I decided that I wanted to post about my first around the world trip!! What an emotion! It took a year and a half, but after all, it's done! :)

YAY!
This itinerary up there is very simple, because in fact, I've traveled a little bit more than that, right? So, I left Brazil, married in Belize and soon moved to the States. After six months, I went to Japan in a flight that crossed the Pacific Ocean and after 11 months, we came back to Brazil, through Germany! YAY

And may this only be the first around the world trip, because there are many places that I haven't visited yet! :)

Last Sunday, pastor Haroldo gave us a great message! Like those ones that make you uneasy, full of a desire to do something for God. But it wasn't only that, it was a message that once again, confirmed that God is not interested on things that were done because of the religiosity.

The Bible can explain it much better than I can, so here are the passages, with a very simple 'label'. The version of the Bible is ESV.
Red is for the things that God doesn't like.
Blue is for the things God wants us to do.
Green is for his promises, if we act the way that pleases him.

“What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices? says the Lord; I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of well-fed beasts; I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of goats. “When you come to appear before me, who has required of you this trampling of my courts? Bring no more vain offerings; incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath and the calling of convocations— I cannot endure iniquity and solemn assembly. Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood. Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause. “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be eaten by the sword; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Isaiah 1:11-20)

(Tiago 1:19-27)
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. (James 1:19-27)

Is such the fast that I choose, a day for a person to humble himself? Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? Will you call this a fast, and a day acceptable to the Lord? “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in. “If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight and the holy day of the Lord honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly; then you shall take delight in the Lord, and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Isaiah 58:5-14)

Do I even need to say anything else? God has so many beautiful promises for us and he's ready to pour that over us, as soon as we decide to obey, to do what he instructs us to do, without religiosity.

I was crazy with that message, lots of ideas flowing from my head. If we stop to think, it's so little, it's so easy for us to get our of religiosity and serve God wholeheartedly.

| What is your love language?

Acho que todas! hahahaha
I think all of them! hahaha

I don't know how to answer this question, so I will speak about each language, ok?

Brazilians are very affective, so it is very common for us to kiss on the cheek to say Hi or Good-bye, but this is something that people don't even dream about in other cultures. It's been basically one and a half years since I left Brazil, so this type of touch is a little bit weird for me. But hug is ok. Until January 2013 when I moved to Japan... and then any type of physical touch is strange! Thank goodness, my hubby is very affectionate and he hugs and holds me, otherwise I'd be very 'cold' by now! When I am tired, or sleepy, all I need is his hug! :) So Touch is still my main love language with Jesse, but with other people, I don't know! hahaha

Tempo de Qualidade | Quality Time
This love language is extremely important for me! I am with Jesse 24/7, but sometimes all I want is a moment for only the two of us, without any technology, without books, without distraction! One thing I don't understand here in Japan is to see couples in dates, each one with their iPhone and every once in a while they show something to the other person. Weird, huh? I like to date old fashioned way! :P

Palavras de Afirmação | Words of Affirmation
This love language is more important if I don't know the person very well! After all, sometimes we need to affirm with all the letters what we feel! With the people who are closer to me, this is a love language that I need the most when I'm kinda blue.

Presentes | Gifts
Who doesn't like to receive gifts? Sometimes a gift means more than what was given, sometimes the intention touches more than the gift itself. A good example is what I received today, I was so touched that I even posted on my Instagram, check it out.

Atos de Serviço | Acts of Service
This is the same thing as Words of Affirmation and Gifts, the saddest or tired I am, the more I need it (and appreciate it!). In fact, the acts of service weren't something that made me feel loved or anything, but since I have my own house and I am tired enough that I don't want to do anything, I've been feeling loved when Jesse makes me tea or when he does the dishes :P

In the end, I concluded that my love languages are still the same: Touch and Quality Time, depending on the day, I need so much love that I accept anything! :P
